Greetings, I have the AD9361 on a custom board with an FPGA. I also have the Xilinx KC705 FPGA evaluation board and a AD-FMCOMMS2-EBZ.
I am unable to get the AD9361 on my custom board to successful get a BBPLL lock. However, it works fine with the evaluation board. I have attached my debug messages and main.c configuration.
I am running your No-OS driver on a desktop computer in order to configure the AD9361 over SPI. The driver has no modifications other than some extra debug messages and the necessary modifications to the SPI interface for my platform. I am running the exact same executable to configure each testbed (custom board, and eval board). And I have verified that up until calibration, all register reads and writes from and to the device are identical.
I am using VDD_INTERFACE = 1.8V, VDD_GPO = 3.15V, and providing 1.3V to the analog supplies. I have monitored these during my configuration procedure and don't see any noticeable integrity issues with the power supplies.
Also of note, is I am using an external reference with both setups, at 40 MHz. So the crystal is removed from the evaluation board, and a 0.1uF capacitor is placed to connect to REF_CLK SMA. My custom board is setup exactly the same.
Any idea why this would work on the eval board and not my custom implementation?
What is the BBPLL sensitive to?
What pins power the BBPLL and it's calibration?
Is there anything else I can monitor to determine why it's not calibrating?
